For those wanting to see the picturesque countryside of Mexico you can catch a series of buses to get to Mexico City to Puerto Escondido. The Mexican bus network, ADO, is hand’s down the best bus system in Central America. There’s a variety of bus classes starting at the standard ADO which is comfortable enough for long and overnight journeys, through to ADO GL and ADO Platinum that offer a more premium experience with larger reclining seats, extra room to stretch out and more amenities including WiFi, power outlets and food and beverage services.
Break up the journey by traveling by bus from Mexico City to Oaxaca City, a six-hour trip through spectacular mountain ranges and local towns. Excite all your senses in this vibrant city that’s exploding with a unique culture, traditional festivals and a food scene that will have your mouth watering before you even arrive. Sip mezcal at the many bars dedicated to this alcoholic beverage or try one of the state’s traditional dishes such as the moles. From Oaxaca City there are direct ADO buses or shuttles to Puerto Escondido. Shuttles offering a door-to-door transfer take the road through the mountains and have you at the beach in approximately eight hours, while the public buses take the long way down the coast with a travel time of 12 hours. Both options cost around the same.
